Never Too Early For a Maibock
It’s not quite May, but it’s never too early for a Maibock. Miskatonic is bringing us a light German-style bock that can be-ordered on May 23 at 7:30pm.
What kind of flavor will this have? “The classic comforting character of gently rising bread with a fresh backdrop of sweet grass, cheering orange/lemon and sticky honey (all lent by a gentle dry hop with the ever-pleasant German grown Mandarina Bavaria).”
Black Horizon is Bringing the Islands to Us
If only we could be on a “Stay-At-The-Islands” order for the Governor. Sun shining, blue skies, waves crashing, and this beer in our hands.
Island Isolation is a golden ale that rocks mango, vanilla, and lactose. Make sure to get to Black Horizon to get this one … they always pack a bunch of flavor into their beer.

All We Drink is Dust in the Wind
Rt66 Old School Brewing released Dust in the Wind. And I’m not going to channel Kansas (although the linked video has over 158 million views).
This brew is a Berliner Weiss that channels a great harmony between lactic acid and yeast. Make sure to get this one when you’re driving down the Mother Road.
Wait, this isn’t beer …
Got your attention with that headline? Well, MyGrain Brewing‘s Old Fashioned Flights are getting peoples attention, so we wanted to give them some love. Sounds like they’re cooking up a new “old fashioned” for Saturday.

Because I Got Hyzer, Because I got Hyzer, Because I got Hyzer
Elder Brewing Company released their double IPA, Highland Park Hyzer This was originally introduced in 2019, with a dollar of each pour going to Highland Park to build a maintenance shed.
You’re going to get notes of pineapple and mango in this double. A great beer with a refreshing taste, and a bit of super power.

Two from Black Horizon
Straight Up Marshmallow is one of my favorite “Straight Up” Variants. You get the porter, which is perfect on its own, balanced perfectly with vanilla and marshmallow. And, don’t think of this as a pastry stout … you’ll know this is a porter.
Gin barrel-aged Fool Me Once is back on tap for a limited time as well. This is the one that took home the 2018 FOBAB Bronze.
Turn Up the Mosaic, Turn It Up Loud!
Blue Nose Brewery just finished up a fresh run of Mosaic Loud IPA.
The brewery describes the beer as “So Dank … So Citrusy … So Chill.”
The Mosaic hop received its name due to the broad and complex variety of aromas that it imparts – from tropical fruits to pine needles. The hop hit the craft brewing scene around 2012. This 2016 article from PunchDrink.com gives the backstory of Mosaic and is a good read.

The Monkeys Visit Will County
Latest out of Will County … THE MONKEYS ARE HERE! You can get a 4 pack of Ghuleh IPA at WCBC. Check out this description … because I couldn’t do it any better.
“A behemoth 3.5 lbs of Citra Hops per barrel detonates an orange peel and pine sap potency that belies its 6.5% ABV. Tangerine and grapefruit take your palate hostage, before an impending wave of spicy evergreen bitterness washes the citrus away with the force of the River Styx.”
Also available at Will County is “If We Build It,” which is the brew collaboration with all of the Will County breweries. 50% of sales will go directly to the Will County Habitat for Humanity. It’s a West Coast pale ale with Centennial and Cascade hops.

All Hail the Rocket Queen from Will County
Rocket Queen is a tasty Double Dry Hopped IPA from Will County Brewing Company. A lot of hops in this one: Amarillo, Citra, and Mosaic. You’ll get a nice assortment of notes on this one – pineapple, orange, and grapefruit.
Two Favorites Back at River Hawk
Minooka Wit and Mangerine are back at River Hawk Brewery in Channahon. Both beers are summertime drinkers. Minooka Wit is made with orange peel and coriander. Mangerine is orange and tangerine. You could consider these Spring and Summer in a glass.
Another Will County Brewing Release, Worthy of Its Own Entry
Have you ever tried Peach Meat? Will County Brewing Company expertly makes this wheat ale with Real Peaches and Madagascar Vanilla. It very smooth – it’ll blow you away. I can attest to that.

Elder Brewing Company is Feeling Pretty Stout
The Joliet-based brewery has two stouts that are waiting for you. The Stout Shaker is the main-stay on the Elder Taps. Smooth and tasty.
If you’re looking for something sweeter, check out Oatmeal Jay. If you took an oatmeal stout and blended sugar cookies into it … that’d be Oatmeal Jay. (NOTE: That’s not literally how they made the beer …. and also that’s why I’m not a professional brewer).
Focus on the Flapjack Beer Photo
I’m a beer blogger, I’m a beer blogger. Did you see the photo of the pancetta, fresh mozzarella, roasted garlic, parmigiano reggiano and arugula pizza?
OK, beer … let me introduce you to “What You Jump Ship?”. This dry-hopped IPA features Sabro, Citra, and Centennial hops. Order a pie and a can for curbside pickup!
For the Lock of Starved Rock, #DrinkForGood
Path Mender Pale Ale has been released by Tangled Roots Brewing Company. The beer benefits “For the Love of Starved Rock.” $2 of every crowler sale will benefit the fundraising effort, a project launching trail restorations and infrastructure projects at Starved Rock State Park – which was voted the #1 attraction in the State of Illinois.
The Light Is Back On at Whiskey Hill
Put a Light Out, their bright and juicy NEIPA, is back on the taps. This brew was dry hopped three times with Citra and Nelson Sauvin. Lots of mango and pineapple flavor in a creamy body. Little bit of pine on the end of this one.

Here Comes OwlBear
The doors of the Dungeon are opening, and Miskatonic is releasing Dungeon Master OwlBear on May 1. Make sure to place your order ahead of time (keep an eye on Miskatonic’s Facebook feed to see when online ordering will open for this beer). Not only that, from 4pm to 7pm on 5/1, you’ll be able to get a 4-pack of maple bacon cupcakes from Gray Street Cupcakes while supplies last. Check out this link for details on the cupcakes.
Dungeon Master: OwlBear is a 10.5% ABV imperial breakfast stout. Waves of real maple and nearly 35 gallons of concentrated cold brew from 10 Drops make this an amazing way to start your day … or night … or whenever you decide to responsibly indulge in a tasty brew.
A Maibock for May 1
Hickory Creek is releasing its Maibock, Deer in the Headlights, on May 1. This one’s been “staying at home” since January during the lagering process, and now it is ready for our bellies. Super-smooth, semi-sweet, lightly-hopped, and malty-finished. I know malty-finished isn’t really a word, but I was on a roll with the hyphens.
