The Ottawa-based brewery has dropped to brews for us today, a NEIPA and a Hoppy Raw Ale.

The first just might be Stephen Tyler’s favorite beer.

Sorry, first thing that came into mind.

Sweet Erosion is the latest NEIPA from Tangled Roots.  The brewery wants you to “embrace your nature,” and being in the shadows of Starved Rock State Park, nature was the inspiration for the beer name.  You’ll wish it was summer when you taste this one, taking in the citrus and tropical aromas.

Beer number 2 is named Gulo vs. Smilodon.  If you’re like me, the name went totally over your head. But, that’s why I’m here … to randomly search the internet and give you the 411.

According to Wikipedia, Gulo is a genus of carnivoran mammals in the family Mustelidae. This includes the Wolverine. Smilodon is a genus of the extinct machairodont subfamily of the felids. It is one of the most famous prehistoric mammals, and the best known saber-toothed cat (commonly known as the saber-toothed tiger.)

So, Wolverine vs the Sabretooth Tiger.  But, I think it goes further than that.

In X-Men, Wolverine and Sabretooth are half-brothers. I’m going with this theory that Gulo vs. Smilodon is a nod to the franchise.

Am I right? Am I wrong? Here’s the breweries description:

For the love of science, comics, and beer we brewed this unboiled raw ale with a healthy dose of Citra, Mosaic, and CTZ hops. We also used a new hybrid yeast strain, Gulo Ale, from Omega Yeast Labs in Chicago.

Make sure to tune into all things Tangled Roots by following them on their web site or Facebook page.
